Nancy Prothero is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner who is qualified to practice in both midwifery and psychiatry; diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication.
Nancy received her Master’s in Nurse Midwifery from Marquette University in 1999 and have been practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife for 22 years. She received her Post-Master’s in 2020 from Maryville University in psychiatric mental health. During her career she has been exposed to how adverse experiences can affect the wellbeing of both men and women.
During her Post Masters she worked with both men and women in the behavioral health emergency room, the adult inpatient unit, Medication Assistance Treatment Center and on the Assertive Community Team.
Nancy is able to treat both men and women with their mental health symptoms. Due to her experiences, she has a strong interest in providing care during all aspects of family building. This includes preconceptual planning, postpartum depression and anxiety, adjustment disorders, premenstrual disorder, traumatic birth experience, and life transitions, She has received specialty training to provide consultation and management for psychiatric medications in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Nancy believes in meeting people where they are at and utilizes a holistic approach to care. She believes that being a partner in a person’s healthcare helps empower the individual and promotes healing from adverse past experiences. Everyone has the ability to achieve wellness based on their needs and preferences.
Nancy is married and has three children. She likes to spend time with family, outside in nature, reading and exercising. She loves to connect with people and hear their stories.
